Critical Analysis Brainstorm

I definitely do not want to stick to the same topic I chose for my op-ed/visual essay. I’m not tired of wearing my mask, but I am tired of writing about wearing a mask. So as I do intend to switch to another topic, I’m unsure of what exactly, but I know I want to write about an art piece instead of another text.

The first thing that comes to mind is historical statues. I’m talking colonial men on horses, carved in stone and cemented in diverse communities in which the historical figure stood nothing for, even against. In fact, more so often, the figures represent the oppression of the diverse minorities in these communities. The most relatable one I can think of is only 78 blocks down at Columbus circle. Why is there such an elaborate traffic circle dedicated to such a horrifying and demonic, if you will, man? Also, why was it barricaded during the Black Lives Matters Protests? If anything, legislation should have been offering ladders to the public to tear that ugly statue down. While I am passionate about this one statue, in particular, there are probably so many more in this country- especially the south- that is more hypocritical and plainly absurd.
